#9: Baylor 2012

Record: 30-2

Coach: James Dickey

Best players: F Jason Sasser (19.5 ppg, 7.8 rpg), C Tony Battie (9.7 ppg, 8.9 rpg).

During the regular season: After narrowly missing the NCAA tournament the previous season, the Red Raiders streaked to one of the most remarkable seasons in SWC history. Tech ran off a 21-game winning streak as they claimed an unbeaten record in SWC play and a 75-73 victory over Texas in the SWC tournament championship.

NCAA history: A tighter-than-expected victory over Northern Illinois in the first round made some pundits doubt their tournament worthiness. But the Red Raiders pummeled North Carolina in the second round in a game punctuated by a backboard-breaking dunk by Darvin Ham that remains one of the most iconic athletic moments in school history. They advanced to the Sweet 16 before a 32-point effort by Allen Iverson led Georgetown to a 98-90 victory.

What makes them special: Their incredible run through the Southwest Conference’s final season helped them set a school record for victories. The Ham jam is a moment when every Tech fan remembers where they were when it occurred. And they finished eighth in the final AP poll — highest in school history.

Record: 30-8

NCAA history: Drew led the Bears to the Elite Eight for the second time in three seasons after beating South Dakota State, Colorado and Xavier. Eventual national champion Kentucky eliminated them in an 82-70 loss where Anthony Davis dominated with 18 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots.

What makes them special: Drew’s team produced three NBA players, finishing the season with a No. 9 rating that was the highest in school history. It also set the school record for victories in a season.
